Displacement from Velocity
The velocity can be found from a position vs. time graph -- it is the slope. However, the position cannot be determined from the velocity graph without additional information (e.g., the initial position). What can be determined from the velocity graph is the displacement; it is the net area between the velocity curve and the time axis, bounded by the initial and final time values. This Illumination demonstrates the calculation of the displacement from a velocity graph for a variety of simple velocity "curves".
