Parallelogram Vector Addition

To add one vector to another using the parallelogram method, draw the first vector, and then draw the second vector with its tail at the tail of the first vector. Make a parallelogram by drawing two additional sides, each passing through the head of one of the vectors and parallel to the other vector. The sum is drawn along the diagonal from the common tail to the intersection of the two lines.

Click the "Go" button to see the process. Note the placement of the two tails together and the construction of the two lines parallel to the vectors. The sum is displayed in red.
